Trinity’s Present

Today, Trinity’s doors open to blended worship services and a congregation responding to the needs of newcomers to the community by returning to its bilingual roots. The church has constructed a translation booth and recruited volunteers to provide Spanish-speaking worshippers with simultaneous translation.  Bilingual Bible studies and a sewing group have become regular parts of the life of Trinity, and this summer the Share program began to connect cultures and lives.

Trinity’s emphasis on mission continues (29% of current budget) as the church supports missionary individuals and families in locations throughout the world and provides increasing support to the local community. At the same time, Trinity continues its history of vibrant programs for children and teens, making maximal use of available space and individual gifts to raise up faithful servants for the harvest.

Trinity has also retained a vibrant prayer life, with many members committing to pray regularly for Trinity staff, participating in 24-hour prayer vigils, and offering prayerful support for Trinity’s many youth and mission programs.

Faced with increasing demand for limited space, the congregation voted in 2007 to purchase land and begin making plans for a new building which would optimize the church’s ability to carry out its mission.

Trinity’s Past

In 1919, Trinity opened its doors as a bilingual church. Guided by prayer, charter members acted in faith and with sacrificial giving to form a congregation which would offer services in Dutch and in English to honor the Dutch-language heritage of the region and to meet the needs of the younger generation.

An emphasis on missions was apparent early, with approximately 30% of the church’s budget earmarked for benevolent ministries. Church programs emphasized service and teaching, and the growing church proudly sent many of its own sons and daughters to open doors across the world as pastors and missionaries.

Throughout its history, Trinity’s members have continued to step out in faith to expand facilities and staff, and in 1990, Trinity opened its doors to a second service emphasizing the contemporary worship language of participatory prayer and praise songs.
